Passionate places’ adverts, and how you can get involved and play your part in raising the profile of our fantastic region.

The campaign is supporting Durham County Cricket Club in their bid to bring a number of International Cricket matches including an Ashes Test match in 2009 to the North East England between 2007 and 2011. Should the bid be successful the event will be of great significance for the whole region.
A bid has been submitted to the England & Wales Cricket Board stating the regional case to bring more international cricket to North East England.
The decision on which matches will be played at which grounds during this period, will be taken by the Major Match Group, the ECB advisory panel for International cricket matches, before Easter.
A website (www.signthebat.com) is collecting region-wide support for the bid, to demonstrate just how much International cricket means to the region. Please help by signing up, and telling others to do the same.
In partnership with the North East Chamber of Commerce, the Regional Image Team is holding a series of events across the region to promote the campaign to businesses, groups and organisations that are yet to get involved.
As well as hearing about what the campaign is doing to promote the region and having an opportunity to see and discuss the TV advert, people attending will hear from fellow business people who are supporting the campaign. Alan Henderson, Hartlepool Marina Ltd and Michelle Atkinson, Redcar and Cleveland Council will speak at the first event.
The series of events begin on Wednesday 8th March at the Atlantic Bar and Grill in Darlington. Registration is at 7.45am followed by the presentation and breakfast.

The first ever television advert promoting North East England, its spectacular coast and countryside, vibrant cities, rich history and passionate people was aired for the first time on 14th February 2006. The advert is currently scheduled to run until the end of March.

North East England is displaying its passion for art with the Laing Art Gallery's latest exhibition in partnership with the National Gallery. Running from 13 April to 9 July at the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne, 'Passion for Paint' is packed full of famous names - Monet, Degas, Van Gogh, Rubens, Van Dyck, Gainsborough, Turner, Sargent and Bacon are just some of the well-known artists whose work will be on display.
The exhibition is a celebration of the way that paint has been used by artists from different centuries, cultures and collections. It invites visitors to explore how artists have used paint to represent and mimic the world around them. It also looks at the potential of paint to convey emotions and shows how for some artists it has become the subject of their work. The Laing Art Gallery is open from Monday to Saturday 10 to 5 and Sunday 2 to 5. Admission is free. For further information visit http://www.twmuseums.org.uk/laing/

As the winner of the World Travel Award for Best Regional Marketing Campaign, the North East England campaign supported the regions PR and communications industry through the Chartered Institute of Public Relations Pride Awards for North East England, which recognise excellence and reward achievement in the PR and communications industry throughout the region.
North East England had a strong presence at this year’s annual celebration of the Region's TV year.

A guide to eating out in North East England has produced in partnership with The Journal. Edited by Geoff Laws, the 124 page guide which includes details on over 200 places to eat, provides a cross-section of what is available in North East England and includes restaurants which are considered to be the best of their kind, as well as cafés and gastro pubs providing good food at reasonable prices.
The guide is available for £4.99 – from Newcastle Chronicle and Journal Reception, Waterstones, Fenwick, WH Smith and some independent bookstores.
The Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle is demonstrating its passion for North East England with the display of a 15m x 10m banner ‘Passionate people. Passionate places’ banner on the stunning grade 1 listed building during its £2.5m repair of the 130 year-old lead roof. Showing a member of the after-school club pictured with their own ceramic work outside of The Bowes Museum, the advertisement will now be seen far and wide, as well as on the museum.

Watch out for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service vehicles displaying ‘Passionate about Community Safety - North East England’ stickers in 2006 as the organisation shows its commitment to community safety and the ‘Passionate people. Passionate places’ campaign, helping to raise the region’s profile.
In addition to using branding on its vehicles, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service is demonstrating its support by hosting briefings, using the North East England brand on its website and putting up posters about the campaign’s aims in its 23 community fire stations across the region

North East England’s is being promoted as a tourism destination right across Europe with the most extensive campaign yet to attract overseas visitors to the region. Holidaymakers from Netherlands, Norway, Ireland, Italy and Germany are being encouraged to visit North East England by the promoting of the region’s Coast and Countryside, History and Heritage, City Culture.
The www.visitnortheastengland.co.uk website now also has information displayed in a number of languages to help the potential visitor plan their trip around the region.
